Obituary

On March 14, 1950, the Greatest American Fisherman was born to Gene and Earlene Norwood in Russell, Kansas. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1968 where he met Suzi Thomas. On August 7, 1971, she agreed to put up with and love him for the rest of their lives. For the past 44 years, they've made Sherwood, AR their home. Larry’s careers ranged from Instant Print to First Arkansas Bail Bonds. He was a past president of the Sylvan Hills/Sherwood Optimist Club, where he spent many hours teaching countless kids, not only the love of sports but the love of life. While doing all of this, he and Suzi together had three kids but raised a village.

Larry was a Jack of All Trades who loved hunting, fishing, sports, woodworking, building anything and everything for his kids but especially building their homes. Of all the hats he wore, being Pap was his favorite hat to wear. Everybody knows “Pap is KOOL"! We all know his stories from the Bald Headed Bear to the Wicked Witch of the West. We all know a butt-hook, a whammy, and how to cork it! He taught us everything ... from when to pull his finger to how to love The Lord.

Now he's fishing the river Jordan with his dad, “Gene”. Left to miss him is his wife of 49 years, Suzi. Also left, are his mom, Earlene, and his two sisters Janet and Susan. His children, Lori and Scott Meaders, Goose and Amanda Norwood, and Josh Norwood and Leigh. All of his favorite grandchildren Westan and Clay, Morgan, Hunter and Macy, Ashtan, Kendall, Dylan, Maddie, Addy, Chancy, Lily, and Lydi. Even greater are Hayes, Sawyer, Sage, Saylor, Harper, Sutton, and coming soon…Ellie Jo.

You won, Pap! On August 5, 2020, you got to come home to your favorite spot before getting to go Home to finally see what Jesus looks like. So here’s to ya… “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.”

A life celebration will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 8, 2020, in the barn at Scott and Lori’s, 51 Adkisson Road in Mount Vernon. Please follow as he takes one last trip in his boat to his final resting place, at the Mount Vernon Cemetery. From there please join us back at the barn for dinner, stories, laughs, hugs and one last celebration worshiping our Lord.

Please respect all COVID-19 social distancing guidelines as set forth by the State of Arkansas.

Suzi,
I was so sorry to hear about your loss when Cordell called me. I was out of the state at the time, but I want you to know how much I treasure the times we all spent together during high school. Working at Piker's and Mr. Splawn's with Larry will be memories that I'll always cherish. You and your family are in my prayers. God bless. Ronnie Lasiter

Suzi - I'm just broken hearted. It was great to talk to you today, and, again, I'm so sorry I've just found out. You and Larry have been so supportive of me, and I can't express how grateful I am for your and Larry's friendship and support. I miss him very much.
