I worked with Ray on the highway for several years, he was a friend. Ray was always ready for work, now he took his time, he never got in a hurry but he was always ready for work if he had that uniform on. Ray had funny cork's about him like we all do. I remember going out to eat with Ray on several occasions, he would wash his hands and sometimes his face in whatever he was drinking, stuff like that you just kinda sit back and watch. He would always bless his food before eating , always. I remember him telling me a story about his ex-wife going out and buying a bunch of furniture without his ok. Ray refused to sit on the new furniture and brought a lawn chair in to the living room to protest the purchase. I don't think he was married to her very long. A nickname we would call Ray was "Mervin Ervin" I don't know where that came from or how it got started but it stuck and he was "Mervin Ervin" to those he worked with. Even though I lost track of Ray after he retired, knowing he has now passed, I will miss him greatly. He will always be missed, he was a friend.
